Installation Requirements: Secure On-Premise DocFusion in Production Environments

  • PDF

Article Summary

The hardware requirements and software configurations contained in this guide pertain to the installation of DocFusion in production environments. They cover the setup of a secure Microsoft Service Fabric cluster upon which DocFusion runs, associated database software, and load-balancing infrastructure. The stability and performance of DocFusion depends on these requirements.

All requirements and configurations are mandatory.

Failure to comply with any requirements or configurations in this guide nullifies associated support plans.

Hardware Requirements

You are planning a server cluster with a minimum of 3 Domain-Joined Servers. The minimum hardware requirements for each member of the cluster, whether physical node or virtual machine, is detailed in the table below:

Component

Requirement

Processor

4-core or greater

Memory (RAM)

16 GB

Storage

Minimum 80GB available disk-space

Connectivity

  • 1 or 2 LAN ports depending on load-balancing technology being implemented. Refer to your load balancing documentation.

  • Minimum 1 Gbps connection required.

Networking & Security Requirements

All node servers, physical and virtual machines, must be connected to the same secure network.

Storage

High-performing SMB share between multiple nodes.

The storage is used for transient transfer of data for processing purposes.

The cloud equivalent is Azure blob storage or AWS S3 buckets.

Software Requirements

Each section below lists the minimum software requirement for the related area, valid versions, and any additional configurations.

Do you need a Software Prerequisites checklist for DocFusion On-Premise installations

Operating System (OS)

Windows Server OS must be installed on all servers.

Valid versions:

  • 2016 (1709 or 1803)

  • 2019

Microsoft Service Fabric

Each node in the server cluster must have installed:

  • Microsoft Service Fabric Standalone Package for Windows Server. Version 6.4.654.9590 or later is the minimum requirement. (Note that later versions also support MS Server 2019 and R1809)

  • Microsoft Service Fabric Runtime. Version 10.0.X or later. Latest stable version preferred.

  • Microsoft Service Fabric SDK v 6 or later.

Download links can be found below.

Additional mandatory Dependencies

  • RabbitMQ

  • Redis

These services can be deployed in a Kubernetes cluster, Docker instances or Virtual Machines.

The preferred method is through Kubernetes.

Utilities

Windows PowerShell 3.0 must be installed on all node servers.

In addition, the following configurations are required for all node servers:

  • PowerShell scripting must be enabled.

  • The Remote Registry service must be running.

Load Balancers

The following configuration must also be applied to all load-balancers:

  • Load balancing must be configured on all nodes in the cluster.

  • Load balancers must be configured with the cluster (DNS) name.

SQL Server

MS SQL Server 2019 Standard or later must be installed.

Note that the minimum edition is SQL Server Standard, version 2019
