Collapsing Smart Parts with blank values

  • PDF

Article Summary

Smart parts remain fixed in the position they were placed in the layout of the document template. When their values are empty, they still occupy space in the layout of the generated document. The option to collapse smart parts eliminates this empty space so that the layout of generated documents are dynamically maintained.

In order for a value to be considered as Blank, it needs to be entirely omitted from the input data, or explicitly defined as a 'null' value. Empty strings and defined fields will be considered as having a value.

Note: Using the "Trim" adornment on a data field will create a value on the field even if it's empty, which will cause it not to collapse.

Enabling Collapse if Blank

With the smart part selected, open the Smart Part Properties window from the DocFusion ribbon bar.

Scan the list of properties to find a checkbox labelled Collapse if Blank. Enable or disable the setting as needed.

Click Save to commit your changes.
