Resolving Error Code 138 When Logging into the Repository
Overview
Some customers may experience Error Code 138 (Connection Timed Out) when attempting to log in using our IDS method in the pop-up login box. This issue is often caused by network restrictions, firewall settings, or browser compatibility.
To improve the login experience, we have implemented a browser-based login method that redirects the authentication process to your default web browser and caches credentials for multiple login sessions.
Causes of Error Code 138
- Network issues preventing a stable connection
- Firewall or security software blocking the IDS login pop-up
- Browser settings or extensions interfering with authentication
- DNS misconfiguration or restrictions from a proxy server
Solution: Use the Browser Login Method
To resolve this issue, we recommend using the new browser login method, which enhances security and reliability.
Enabling the Browser Login Method
Before using the browser login method, it must be enabled on the user's machine:
- Create an environment variable called
DF_EnableBrowserSignOn
. - Set the value of
DF_EnableBrowserSignOn
totrue
. - Once this is done, the system will automatically route the user to use the browser login method.
How to Use the Browser Login Method:
Your default browser will open with the authentication page. Enter your credentials and complete the login process.
Once logged in, the session will be cached, reducing the need for repeated logins.
Return to the application, and you should now be successfully authenticated.
Additional Troubleshooting
If you continue to experience issues, try the following:
- Check your internet connection and restart your router if necessary.
- Temporarily disable firewall/antivirus software and try logging in again.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies to remove any stored conflicting data.
- Change your DNS settings to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).
- Try a different browser to rule out compatibility issues.
